Not mentioned in your item is the convention that&#039;s widely flauted these days by people deciding to save money or to convey the idea that they&#039;re &quot;international&quot;.. that is, registering &quot;.com&quot; domand names instead of &quot;.com.au&quot;.

I know this isn&#039;t policed and it isn&#039;t enforceable but I wish it was.  If a business operates in Australia, it should have a &quot;.au&quot; on its domain name.  If it operates internationally, it might be entitled to drop the &quot;.au&quot; but I contend that it&#039;s pretentious nonsense for many businesses I&#039;ve seen to suggest that they&#039;re multinationals.

So for the sake of a handful of dollars, I strongly encourage Aussie firms to stick with the convention and be proud to stick the &quot;.au&quot; on their domand names.
